There’s no cost to being a Preparedness Partner and no obligation. We just want you to tell us you’re helping so we can say “Thank You” and recognize your efforts when the campaign is over.

FAQ

In the past, emergency alerts would call your house, but most people have switched to mobile phones and we can only get your number if you sign up.  And we need your address so we only send you messages where you live and work (you can add as many addresses as you like.)

Pretty much no one. Your sign up information will go into our secure database where it can only be used to send messages from the alerting system. Your information won’t be given or sold to anyone for any other reason.

Fewer than you might think. We’ll use the system only for emergencies and other important situations, like hurricane preparedness. And because the system can target messages only to the addresses that are in harm’s way, you won’t be bothered by messages that aren’t relevant to your area.

For anyone who lives or works in the Parish, it’s free!  The Parish pays all costs for this service, although normal usage and message charges from your phone company may still apply to you.

As a community leader, you care about the folks who live and work in the area. Getting them registered for alerts helps your employees, co-workers, members, customers, friends and neighbors help themselves. You’re also helping local first responders, because when more residents can take care of themselves, it helps them do their jobs more effectively, efficiently and safely.
That depends on your role in the community.  We want you to encourage the folks you’re most in contact with – your employees, members, customers, etc. to sign up for the service. Use whatever tools you have available: email, Facebook, your webpage, your store front or bulletin board. And do it frequently through the month of June, because most people need a reminder before they take action.

First, you should sign up to protect yourself, your family and your property. Knowing when there’s a dangerous situation helps you prepare in advance or take protective action. Thousands of lives have been saved by systems like this. Second, by signing up, you help your local first responders, who will be able to do their jobs more effectively, efficiently and safely because you’ll be doing your part to protect yourself.

You’re probably not signed up for this service, which is different from the one provided by the Federal Government. The messages you get from the Federal System are broadcast from cell towers and can be off by hundreds of yards or more. And that system can’t be used for some local emergency situations like a boil water alert.

This is a local service from your local government. While the federal government has its own alerting system (you may have gotten those alerts on your phone), this system is more accurate and can be used more flexibly by your local emergency responders.

None. We’re just grateful for your help! In fact, we’ll give you a certificate of appreciation and include your business, club, church or other organization in our “hall of fame”. But it’s all an honor system, so we’re counting on you to follow through as best you can. And thanks!
